Aras Innovator provides a robust set of change management features out of the box, offering three main methodologies: CMII, Simplified, and Express. Each process is tailored for different levels of rigor, speed, and organizational needs.

Understanding which process to use, who is involved, and how an item transitions through lifecycle states can be complex. To help visualize these workflows, we’ve integrated our interactive Change Management Reference right here in the blog!

Why use different change management processes?

  • CMII (Institute of Configuration Management): This is the most formal and rigorous process. It is best suited for complex products, regulatory compliance, and scenarios where a strict audit trail and multiple levels of approval are mandatory.
  • Simplified: A balanced approach that requires less overhead than CMII but still maintains structured approvals and lifecycle transitions. Ideal for standard engineering changes.
  • Express: The fastest and most agile process. Best for minor changes, rapid iterations, and organizations that prioritize speed over heavy documentation.

By leveraging these built-in processes appropriately, your engineering teams can significantly reduce bottlenecks and improve overall product lifecycle management.
